To-day's main activity was referred to as Mangrove Reforestation. Through various forms of transport (see Photos TH-049 to Th-056), we finally arrived at a muddy location; part of the Krabi River estuary, in the Mueang Krabi District. More accurately, we 'camped' on a higher part of the beach, between the Ban Khlong Prasong School and the Ban Khlong Prasong Mosque.

After everyone had congregated, and we had been debriefed on what we were required to do, our first task was to walk across the deep black mud, to the existing mangrove plants (Photo TH-055), to select those young saplings of a certain size.

On a separate note, as can be seen in the foreground of that photo, a lot of plastic (in various guises) had been brought in by the ocean currents and deposited into the mud.

Being part of the estuary, with its very soft black mud, the planting process was relatively easy, providing a good start in life for the new saplings! By the end of the hot and humid day, we had planted approximately 550 new mangrove plants. The fruits of our labours can be seen in Photo TH-056.

Unfortunately, I didn't make any notes for to-day, and only took two photos: leaving the beach beside the Centara Grand Krabi Pier (bound for PDC1) and arrival at Koh Phi Phi Don.

Nothing to report to-day; only three video clips with Ryan. In the first clip, even with visibility poor, Ryan was able to identify and collect someone's weight pouch! The second clip is at the surface; those fins really work well! In the third clip, one can see a Puffer Fish (Tetraodontidae?) and a Lionfish (Pterois).

This morning's diving took place in and around Koh Daerng (one of the Local Islands), during which I suffered from a painful left ear.

During the afternoon, we visited a rubber tree plantation, close to the Ao Nang Baan Suan Resort (โรงแรมอ่าวนางบ้านสวนรีสอร์ท). To utilise as much of the growing area as possible, pineapples were growing in the spaces between the trees; Photo TH-059.

We visited the Wat Huai Tai School (Photo TH-060), near Thab Prik, where, among other activities (including learning English), we played the game of Matching Pairs with the children.

Afterwards, we travelled to the Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, where we enjoyed the coolness of the Huay Toh Waterfall (อุทยานแห่งชาติเขาพนมเบญจา) and its pools.

For the evening activity, a few of us found a bar in Ao Nang, where we play several games of Pool. One of the group took a fancy to Ludivine (but not in a nice way - he was drunk!) and wouldn't leaver her alone. So I intervened to protect her, and suggested we leave and go somewhere else. We eventually arrived back at Utopia, safe and sound, at about midnight.

Another rest day. A number of other volunteers decided to go for a trek, but due to the heat and humidity, I wanted to take it easy and ended up watching a few episodes of The Night Manager - under the cooling effect of a fan!
